Lincoln, Steep Hill 4. This very steep medieval street leads from the Cathedral down to the High Street and has a gradient of one in seven (14%). This is the steepest part of the hill and a hand rail is provided. The street is part of the Roman route from the ford over the River Witham to the Forum in modern Bailgate. Joseph HEWSON and William SOUTH would have trudged this hill many a time.
