(member of HAYHURST's Party)

Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Ardee, County Louth, Ireland ca 1780.

Death Notice (Cape of Archives) of his wife says that she was born in Ireland ca 1788. Her Christian name appears to be a badly spelt version of Margaret. The Settler Handbook lists her as Mary, but Marg. on settler lists was often mistaken for Mary.

Death Notice (Cape Archives) of their eldest daughter Ann says that she was the daughter of James and Margaret and that she was born in Ardee, County Louth, Ireland on 9 February 1808. Her first husband was John CAWOOD (who signed James' Death Notice) and she later married John PHILLIPS (whose first wife was Sarah HAYHURST (daughter of the Party Leader Richard HAYHURST).

Death Notice (Cape Archives) of Mary FOXCROFT, nee MURRAY implies she was born in Dublin on 14 April 1816, the daughter of James and Margaret MURRAY.

Death Notice (Cape Archives) for son Ralph reads "Born at sea between England and the Cape of Good Hope on the 8th April 1820, son of James and Margaret MURRAY." His baptism record on Family Search gives his date of birth as 9th April 1820.
