Symbolic conclusion. Dragons on the side, dark storm clouds, raging seas and high mountains were some of the dangers the Trekkers had to face. Everything is balanced on the open book of the Bible, and the lowly wagon wheel keeps it together. On the right is a guardian angel. The buildings in the background are the Houses of Parliament in Cape Town.
Date: 13. November 2019

Bloedrivier: 16 Des 1838. Met dagbreek val die Zoeloes aan.

Blood river. Nothing would be enough to convey the sense of danger that must have hung over the laager on the day when thousands of heavily armed Zulu warriors attacked.
Date: 13. November 2019

Gathered around the Bible. Nobody was allowed to stay away from the ritual of the family listening to the patriarch reading from the Bible. This was the time when Psalm 119 was read in full on a single evening. Afterwards children would be asked to repeat what they have heard.
Date: 13. November 2019
