Death Notice (Cape Archives) suggests he was born ca 1795 and that his mother's name was Mary. Despite this the baptism below, to Thomas and Frances, seems likely, especially given that he gave the middle name of TICKNER to his son.

Thomas BERRINGTON of this parish and Frances TICKNER of the parish of St.George, Southwark, were married by licence on the 2nd September 1792 in St.Saviour, Southwark
