At one time Walter CURRIE senior, by then a widower, and five of his sons wanted to emigrate. The return for WILLSON's Party lists only Walter and Adam, but no trace of Adam has been found in South Africa and he may have also dropped out)

 

Death Notice (Cape Archives) says that Walter was born in Langholm, Dumfriesshire, son of Walter and Helen CURRIE. In fact he was baptised in neighbouring Roxburghshire and his father moved to Langholm in time for the birth of his youngest brother Charles.

In memory of  Walter CURRIE who died in Langholm 3rd September 1833 aged 83 years. And Helen PATERSON spouse to Walter CURRIE who died in Langholm June 11th 1816 aged 53 years. Also Helen their daughter who died 20th July 1781 aged 4 years.

July 22 1787 Baptised James son to Walter CURRY in Braidly Burnfoot [Burnfoot is now a suburb of Hawick]
