pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

To the Right Honourable Secretary of State the humble petition of Richard GREEN according to the advertisement I saw in the paper. Wish to engage myself according to your Lordships proposhals heaving [sic] a wife and eight children, 3 under y18 and above y12. Wish to go to the Cape of Good Hope. By trade a sawyer and know the trade of agriculter heave been in is Majestys employ in the victuelling office for seven years. Can heave good carricter from Squire BELL for honesty and industry if this meets your aprobation. Heave the goodness to dyrectt for Rich'd GREEN, No.1 Read Cow Lane, Mile End Road
