My Lord,

As Government have determined of assisting those who wish to emigrate to the Cape of Good Hope I with my family and a number of others wish to avail ourselves of so liberal an offer and as Liverpool is the place where emigration is going on with such spirit and vast numbers arriving daily for the purpose of going to the United States might I not be permitted to advertise the particulars in hand bills in order to collect a sufficient number together for one vessell and would lessen the spirit there off to the States. I have had some conversation with our chief Magistrate and should wish to act under his authority while I remain here in order to give the matter strength (as the publick have been duped once or twice by imposters) or in any other way you might suggest and as the vessells which sail from this port to the East Indies might not the owners be asked for tenders how much per head they would take passengers to the Cape which might be sent you or be received by some one here and so it will be necessary to make the deposits as early as possible if you will inform us in what manner they are to be made we will attend to them and every other particular relating thereto and should my offered services herein prove acceptable I shall gladly undertake to see all that go out with me located on the land assigned them and give every information to the Government respecting the settlement from time to time should it fall to my department so to do.

Honourable Sir,

We beg leave to forward you the enclosed list of able bodied men and their families which we wish to take out under our direction subject to the provisions made by Government relative thereto and at same time assure you that we have taken considerable pains in selecting such families and individuals as we hope will be approved of. The present list does not contain the different useful and necessary trades which is intended to be taken out with us not having obtained their real ages and characters and being doubtful that a further delay might endanger your approval of us, a more correct list of the whole shall be forwarded you on the receipt of your sanctioning the present list which in the whole we presume will amount to 100 to 130 souls or upwards. Mr. Wm. BOARDMAN, Minister of the Established Church, wishes to join us and to become our Chaplain. He is well recommended by his friends and it is our wish that he may be accepted, his friends will write you on his behalf.

Mr. NEAVES of this town has just called to inform us of your approval of him and his party whose wish it is to proceed in the same vessell with our party from this port should we be approved of. A Mr. HODGSON of Hawkshead in this County has also been with us expressing a wish to join our party with about 20 individuals should they likewise be approved of whose list either is or will be forwarded you in a few days.

Sir,

Herewith you will receive a regular list of the 27 families already accepted by Earl BATHURST. We wish to state that being disappointed of three families we have substituted others in their place. We humbly hope you will have the kindness to state in your returns to us the intended time of embarkation. This information is particular desirable as all the families already entered are very eager to ascertain this point as also wether a transport will be appointed to call here or you will appoint one of the East Indiamen belonging to this port. We believe J. GLADSTONE Esq MP will have one leaving this port in four or five weeks. The second list of settlers which you was so kind to send forms; for the insertion of these names shall be forwarded by tomorrows post.

Honourable Sir,

We write this at the particular request of a number of relatives and friends of the party going out to the Cape under our direction, who could not dispose of their property and businesses in time to proceed with us but are still desirous of embraceing the opportunity in the ensuing spring should Government think proper to allow them. They are principally farmers, joiners, smith &c of industrious and sober habits and will accede to Government proposals; They particularly wish to be located in or near our Neighbourhood should they (as aforesaid) be allowed to go out. If an answer to this can be transmitted to us at your earliest convenience the parties would then be enabled to prepare as it would be highly imprudent to break up their connections or dispose of property without being certain of the object in view. We presume they will amount to at least two hundred and fifty persons should this be answered favourably. We will appoint a person competent for the undertaking to come out with the party as director and who will transmit you the necessary lists relative thereto

We wish to apologise for the manner in which our remittances have been forwarded to W. HILL Esq which has been intirely occasioned by unforeseen obstacles & the great distance which a number of the settlers reside from us. We have used every exertion to facilitate the business & will in the early part of next week transmit you our list as corrected.

Enclosed we beg leave to forward you three copies of our list as corrected containing one hundred and three settlers for the Cape of Good Hope, the Government deposits for whom have already been transmitted to W. HILL Esq Commissariat Department, Treasury amounting to four hundred and forty two pounds ten shillings which we trust will be found correct agreeable to the inclosed lists.

A few in our former lists who are anxious to proceed with the above have not yet come forward but if they could be allowed would embrace this opportunity.

Since your esteemed favor of the 2^nd inst we have to acquaint you that our list stands as accepted by Earl BATHURST with the exception of John RIGG, who we have replaced with Thos. KIDD as below. By this post we understand that John GLADSTONE Esq MP has remitted to W. HILL Esq ten pounds as Government deposit for James KENT & family as under who he informs us you have allowed to be added to our list. In consequence of which alteration we presume it necessary to return the enclosed for your correction.
