Being desirous of availing myself of the Assistance offered by the Government to persons wishing to emigrate to the Cape of Good Hope, have taken the liberty of soliciting a copy of the circular containing the terms upon such assistance will be given.

Sir,

I have to acknowledge receipt of your favour of the circular and beg leave to request further information, particularly whether it will suit the views of Government to grant assistance in the same proportion as stated in the circular to persons who not possessing the means of bringing 1000 acres of land into cultivation, yet having sufficient for cultivating from 100 to 500 acres. With many apologies for the trouble this may occasion and waiting the favor of a reply

Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 27 instant and beg to state that although the conditions of the circular do not suit the several persons for whom I troubled you with the inquiry, yet am desirous for myself to receive the assistance of Government on the terms therein proposed and that my family consists of a wife and five children the eldest of which is eighteen the remaining four under fourteen years. In the event of this application being accepted I shall be happy to be directed how to proceed in order to obtain the proffered aid.
