pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

With all due respect I beg to be informed from you the best and easiest method of emigration to the Cape of Good Hope, having on my own account nothing but Personal Services to render I wish to go the most approved method you can dictate (but if I must find a friend) I beg your Lordship will state how I had best proceed. Your answer will oblige a Royal Subject who is distresst for want of employ and will ever remain your obliged and very hbl serv't
