pre 1820 Settler Correspondence before emigration

ALL the 1819 correspondence from CO48/41 through CO48/46 has been transcribed whether or not the writers emigrated to the Cape. Those written by people who did become settlers, as listed in "The Settler Handbook" by M.D. Nash (Chameleon Press 1987), are labelled 1820 Settler and the names of actual settlers in the text appear in red.

Having seen an article in the newspaper inserted by Government concerning a new settlement of a Colony at the Cape of Good Hope, wishing to go with my wife and daughter, I beg you will be kind enough to honour me with the particulars & instructions of the Government thereof

I received from you the conditions which Government propose concerning the settlement on the Cape of Good Hope, been asked the question if Government allows the instruments of cultivating and if it is permitted to take out any luggage with him. I beg to favor me with a line of the particulars

Sir,

I beg pardon for troubling you again with this address. Being my intention to go as a settler to the Cape of Good Hope I have been informed by my friends that foreigners would not be accepted. Being myself a native of Germany but having resided in this country above twenty four years I should be very much obliged to you if you will be kind enough in informing me if I and my family are allowed of partaking the same privileges as a native of England, In the hope in been soon favoured with an answer I am Sir
