Birchington, The Square. The Square, adjacent to All Saints Church, where Thomas EASTLAND was baptised, was always triangular in shape and was the heart of the village. In 1802 the population of Birchington was 537. There were a number of coaching inns surrounding the Square, and today the small triangle doubles as a very busy roundabout on the road from Margate to Canterbury.
