Thorp Arch Church. William THACKWRAY's sister Mary and her husband Joshua GREENWOOD lived in Thorp Arch. In 1826 William applied to bring his "sister, brother-in-law and 10 children" to the Cape. The contact name and address given was Mr. J. GREENWOOD, Thorp Arch, or Boston near Wetherby, Yorkshire. The request was not granted. William would have known Thorp Arch well as it is just across the River Wharfe from the Boston Spa/Clifford area where he grew up.
