Jeanie Johnston Settler Ship Diorama 1

Jeanie Johnston Settler Ship Diorama 1
30th September 2023
Sue Mackay
The Jeanie Johnston was a ship importing wood from Canada between 1848 and 1852 and returning with victims of the Irish famine who wished to emigrate. She later sank in the Atlantic but the current replica ship was built as a milennium project and is now permanently moored outside the EPIC Emigration Museum. Although some years later than 1820, the size of the ship and the conditions on board would have been very similar to those of the East Indian and Fanny. This diorama shows the captain reading the bible to the settlers and the rations allocated to each family for a week.
