Ballydrum Bridge on the Royal Canal, near Killashee, County Longford, built ca 1815. The Royal Canal went from Dublin to Longford Town, carrying freight and passengers. It was started in 1790 and completed in 1817. William SCANLAN's group of settlers, including the ARMSTRONG and the FORBES families, came from Longford Town and may well have used the canal. Migrants during the Irish famine walked along the tow path to reach Dublin.
