Chetham's Hospital Archway

Chetham's Hospital Archway
1st June 2018
Sue Mackay

The Archway to the former Chetham's Hospital School, now Chetham's School of Music. Chetham's Hospital was established in 1653 under the will of Humphrey Chetham (1580–1653), for the education of "the sons of honest, industrious and painful parents". Members of George SMITH's Party would have been familiar with this building, especially as it is situated in close proximity to the Collegiate Church of St.Mary, St.Denys and St.George (now Manchester Cathedral), where many of them got married or baptised their children.
