The Mitre Hotel, opposite the Collegiate Church of St.Mary, St,Denys and St.George (now Manchester Cathedral), was built in 1815 as the Old Church Tavern. In the background is the Old Wellington Inn, dating from 1552 but originally situated on the Market Square. Thomas CAPPER, James COWIE and John MITTON were all married in the church opposite in 1815 or later, so might have had a drink here beforehand!
