Pentrich, St.Matthew

Pentrich, St.Matthew

St.Matthew's Church in Pentrich, just outside Ripley. Thomas WEBSTER was born in Ripley but the parish church there was not built until 1821, so it is likely that Thomas was baptised in Pentrich. The village is famous for the Pentrich Rising of 1817, an armed rebellion of stockingers, quarrymen and iron workers who marched against the Government before being quashed.
