Chatham Royal Navy Dockyard was located on the River Medway. Charles CRAUSE, a Lieutenant in the 19th Company (Chatham Division) of the Royal Marines, Joseph GARLAND, who served in the Navy for 18 years, and Charles GRIFFITH (father of Charles, John and Valentine GRIFFITH, who was a Captain in the Marines, all had a connection to Chatham. The dockyard closed in 1984 and is now open to the public as the Chatham Historic Dockyard.
