Bennie De Lange was the youngest child and only son of Jan Hendrik De Lange and Helena Josina Britz. He attended Diamantveld High School in Kimberley where he excelled as an athlete. He joined the South African Navy after his graduation. He worked as a financial advisor for Old Mutual. His funeral service was held on 9 April 2002 at the Dutch Reformed Church Pierre Van Ryneveld, Centurion. His ashes were strewn at Magoebaskloof, Tzaneen.
