Death Notice (Cape Archives) says he was born in Nottingham, son of Hugh and Ann

 

He was the youngest child of Hugh ATHERSTONE and Ann GREEN

Mary ATHERSTONE, daughter of Hugh and Ann, baptised 4 May 1794 in St.Nicholas, Nottingham (later married Edward DAMANT)

This Mary was actually the niece rather than the sister of John ATHERSTONE the settler. She was the daughter of John's older brother Hugh and his wife Ann Mary ATHERSTONE.

Elizabeth DAMANT was the daughter of William DAMANT and Elizabeth CASTELL and the sister of the 1820 settler Edward DAMANT (see notes for Edward DAMANT)
