Charles CRUSE [sic] married Jane HULBERT in St.Mary's, Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire on 17 January 1735 (grandparents of the settler siblings)

Charles CRUSE of Greenhill in the Parish of Wootton Bassett and Mary DAVEY of this Parish were married by Licence on the 4th May 1778 in the Abbey Church of St.Peter and St.Paul, Dorchester-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

Charles CRAUSE Senior was a Captain in the 65th Regiment of Foot. Latterly he lived at Spring Grove in Redwings Lane, Pembury, Kent, and several of his children were baptised in St.Peter's, Pembury.

 

Children of Charles and Mary CRAUSE:

Amelia born 28 February 1782.  Privately baptised  and registered with siblings 1 August 1799 in St.Peter, Pembury, Kent. [married John BAILIE]

Charles Steel, son of Charles and Mary CROSSE [sic] baptised 24 December 1873 in All Saints, Fornham, Suffolk.

William baptised 15 March 1784 "William son of Charles and Mary CRUSE was born [R.C.]" in St.Bartholomew and All Saints, Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire.

Charlotte privately baptised and registered 20 April 1787 at St.Peter, Pembury, Kent.

Henry Augustus born ca 1790/91. Privately baptised  and registered with siblings 1 August 1799 in St.Peter, Pembury, Kent. He died on 15 March 1857 in Brixton, Surrey, aged 66.

John Anthony privately baptised  as John and registered 5 February 1793 at St.Peter, Pembury, Kent

Julia privately baptised and registered 24 June 1798 at St.Peter, Pembury, Kent.

Henrietta privately baptised  and registered with siblings 1 August 1799 in St.Peter, Pembury, Kent.

There was also a Mary Anne (see correspondence), believed to have been born in Dublin.

RG4/4391 Register of Burials at Elim Baptist Chapel, Fetter Lane, London.

Charles CRAUSE, aged 63, of the Parish of Liberty of the Rolls, was buried in this chapel on 15 May 1802.

John Anthony CRAUSE (1793-1864) was appointed from the Royal Military College to an ensigncy in the 58th Regiment in1808, and was made Lieutenant in 1811. He joined the 2nd Battalion in Portugal and fought at Badajoz and Cuidad Rodrigo before being invalided home in 1812. He transferred to the 1st Garrison Battalion in December 1812 and became Staff Adjutant at the Invalid Depot, Fort Pitt (Chatham). He was placed on half pay in May 1817.
