Honoured Sir,
Having a great desire to go to the Cape of Good Hope and not having the ten pounds which is required I beg you will have the goodness to allow me to go without paying that sum, as I am a pensioner at 1/2d per day from 95th and 84th Regts. Served in the Cape 3 years and in the East Indies 11½ years. I can do without any assistance after I land there.
Your complying will for ever oblige
Your most obedient and most humble servant
