Gampy was born in East London to Emanuel and Eliza Pascual. He spent his childhood in Kimberley before going to the South African College to study Land Surveying. He interrupted his studies to participate in the 1st World War. Whilst he was in Europe his parents moved to George in the Cape. Torres completed his studies and set up working as a Surveyor in George. He was engaged to do Survey work on the Taute farm "The Willows" where he met Thelma. They were married on the farm and set up home in the house left to him by his parents. Thelma and Torres were added two daughters to the family Elaine and Joan. Gampy again volunteered for the 2nd World War serving in the North Africa in the Intelligence Corp before returning to South Africa as Camp Commandant for the Surveyor Corp in Ladismith. He left the army as a Major! Nini and Gampy were married almost 50 years, he was widowed in 1976. He continued to work as Land Surveyor in George until he retired to live in Benoni with his daughter Joan in 1987. He was a devoted father and Grand-father much loved and respected by his daughters and 7 Grand Children and at the time of his death 5 Great-grand Children. His ashes were placed in the sea off the Pier at Victoria Bay at his request
