ACCIDENT TO MR. KIFT
We regret to hear that our respected fellow-townsman, Mr. Edmund Lombard KIFT, met with a severe accident during his voyage per R.M.S. Teuton from this port to Table Bay. Frm the telegram to hand we learn that on Tuesday morning last, while the vessel was off Cape Hangklip, and rolling heavily, Mr. KIFT rose from his Madeira chair on deck to assist some other passengers. While performing this act of attention, the vessel gave a violent lurch, and Mr. KIFT was thrown with great force against the side, sustaining serious and painful injuries. It was discovered that the thigh of one leg was broken, and the knee-cap of the other much damaged. On the arrival of the Teuton in Dock, Mr. KIFT was at once removed to Somerset Hospital, where he now lies, under the medical care of Dr. CHIAPPINI. Private telegrams received yesterday afternoon report that he is doing as well as can be expected. The fracture of the thigh is a simple, not a compound one. Mr. KIFT has requested Mrs. KIFT and family to remain here. When the news arrived deep regret was universally expressed by everyone who knew our genial and highly-respected friend, and we hope his recovery will be speedy.

CART ACCIDENT
The injuries received by the brothers HARTMAN, from the capsize of a cart, are not so serious as was stated in the extra published by us on Tuesday; although they are bad enough. There were three brothers (HARTMAN) and a friend travelling in a cart, which was capsized against an ant-hill. Mr. Andries HARTMAN fell beneath the cart, and had his upper jaw and a rib broken; a brother suffered the simple fracture of the humerus, or upper arm-bone. The broken bones were set by DR. SHILLITO, and the sufferers are in a fair way of recovery. – Uitenhage Times.
