We are sorry to record the occurrence of an accident that took place last Friday night a few miles from Graham’s Town, under the following circumstance. Mr. WATT, of the Commissariat Department, who accompanies the troops, had it seems hired a wagon to convey his baggage, and given ten pounds of powder, which he put in a leathern bag, to the driver, a person of the name of FILLMORE, with an injunction to pack it up carefully. FILLMORE having been much occupied during the whole of the previous day, put the packet in or beside the wagon chest, and as the leader, a Fingo, was striking a light for his pipe, a spark fell upon the powder which exploded, setting the wagon and its contents in a sudden blaze. Both FILLMORE and the Fingo were thrown out. The former had his leg broken in two places, and the latter sustained a fracture of his right arm. The whole of his right cheek and the left forearm and hand were burnt. He was also burnt under the chin. The sufferers, however, we are glad to add, are both in a fair way of recovery. Immediately upon the explosion taking place the affrighted bullocks dashed onwards, and were at last checked in their career by being driven into some water where the flames were extinguished. Two of the poor animals are, as we hear, much scorched. The remains of the wagon have been brought to town, and present scarcely a vestige of anything but the frame and dissel-boom. We understand that the loss sustained by Mr. WATT is estimated at £150.
