Death Notice (Cape Archives) of his wife says that her maiden name was Mary TOWL, daughter of William TOWL and Mary WOOLLEY of Chilworth, Nottinghamshire

William son of John and Mary CROSS baptised 2 August 1812 in St.Mary the Virgin, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire

Charlotte daughter of John and Mary CROSS, Chilwell, carpenter,  baptised 23 November 1813 in St.Mary the Virgin, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire

Mary Ann daughter of John and Mary CROSS, Chilwell, FWK [framework knitter],  baptised 29 September 1816 in St.Mary the Virgin, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire

John son of John and Mary CROSS, Chilwell, wheelwright, baptised 23 September 1819 in St.Mary the Virgin, Attenborough, Nottinghamshire 

 

The Settler Handbook lists Charlotte as Charles, but it is clear from the death notices of the parents that her name was Charlotte. The youngest son John died at sea.
