Additonal Information

This is pre 1820 information mainly taken from actual images of UK parish registers and other primary sources which I have personally researched. Further information about the settlers and their families once they reached the Cape can be found at https://www.1820settlers.com/

HODGKINSON, George - Extra Data

(member of CALTON's Party)

Death Notice (Cape Archives) is very unspecific as to his birthplace and parentage. There are three possible baptisms in Nottinghamshire which would fit a George HODGKINSON emigrating as a single man of 21 (Settler Handbook)

Grahamstown Journal 12 February 1875

DIED on the 3rd inst at Standerwig, Hymond’s Party [sic], Division of Bathurst, George HODGKINSON Senr, aged 74 years 1 month and 14 days, after an illness of about two months. Deceased was one of the British Settlers of 1820. His end was peace.

This would put his birth around 21 December 1800

Nottinghamshire FHS Transcriptions

George son of George and Rebekah HODGKINSON was baptised 21 December 1800 in St.Mary of the Purification, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire
