MILLER, William - Extra Data
(member of SEPHTON's Party)
The life of William MILLER, founder of the Baptist community in the Eastern Cape, is well documented, but most sources refer to his first wife as being Elizabeth DENNISON. In fact it seems that both William and Elizabeth had been married before.
London Metropolitan Archives
William MILLAR widower and Eliza DENNISON widow were married by banns on 8th August 1798 in St.Marylebone.
Both signed
Witnesses: John WILLOCK and Barbara [RUSSELL]
[NB the signature on this marriage matches that of William to Ann HUMPHREYS (widow) in 1843 in Grahamstown]
There are too many William MILLERs to be sure of his first marriage, but Eliza's maiden name was almost certainly LOVELOCK.
Thomas DENNISON and Eliza LOVELOCK were married by banns on 10th February 1795 in St.Marylebone
Both signed (Thomas signed his name DENISON)
Witnesses: Thos. BIRD and Ann PINCOT
