AN AFFECTING ACCIDENT AT UMGENI FALLS
On Monday morning last, an interesting youth, son of Geo. HOLGATE Esq of Howick, was drowned in the Umgeni River. It had been recommended by the faculty that he should bathe every morning for a complaint to which he was subject, and it is supposed he was bathing as usual, but remaining long away one of his brothers was sent to call him, who, on his return, gave the information that his clothes were upon the margin of the river, but him he could not find. The river has since been unsuccessfully dragged, and we are sorry to say the corpse has not yet been found. This distressing event has thrown the bereft family into deep sorrow, in which the village and the surrounding neighbourhood partake.
