Wife’s Death
Mr. Wilfred ROSS, magistrate of Mossel Bay, was granted leave in the Supreme Court, Capetown, to presume the death of his wife, who disappeared on January 13. In an affidavit, Mr. ROSS said it was his opinion that his wife had fallen down a steep 1,000ft cliff, Klein Sout Gat, at Mossel Bay. An umbrella belonging to Mrs. ROSS was found on a ledge, and at a spot below it were blood marks and traces of a woman’s hair on the rocks. Lower down the cliff was a rock swept by the sea, and owing to the currents and the nature of the coast Mr. ROSS said, the possibility of recovering any body that had fallen there would be very remote.
Obituary
Mrs. F.H. WYLDE
(Contributed)
It is with deep regret that we have to announce the death, which took place at Stutterheim on the morning of the 5th April, 1932, at her residence of Fanny Shepperson WYLDE (born HARVEY), beloved wife of Mr. F.H. WYLDE.
The deceased lady had been in failing health for some time past and during the last few weeks was nursed by her favourite niece Mrs. Toy (Doris) SUTHERLAND. General sympathy is extended to her husband and her son Mannsell (Bowsen) LEWIS by a former marriage. Mrs. WYLDE was the eldest daughter of the late Inspector E. HARVEY and Mrs. HARVEY, at present of Queenstown. She was a hard worker for her church, which she loved and was always willing to assist in the welfare of the town. Her husband is Town Clerk of Stutterheim, which position he has held for the last 15 years. The body was moved from the house to St. Barnabas Church during the morning, where the Rev. A.E. McKENZIE held service at 4 p.m.
Later her remains was laid to rest beside those of her son Eric, who died from effects of the Great War.
Numerous wreaths and tokens of love were received from all parts of the town and adjoining districts, showing the respect in which Mrs. WYLDE was held…

The late Mrs. Edmund WAINWRIGHT
(Contributed.)
In the passing of Mrs. Edmund WAINWRIGHT at the age of seventy-eight years Queenstown has lost of its elect ladies. The end came with tragic suddenness on Sunday morning, May 1. She rose in her usual health and good spirits, and was looking forward to a happy Sunday in her home and in the services of her beloved church but the call came without warning to either herself of her family. The cause of her death was a stroke from which she did not rally, and, without suffering she entered into rest.
The suddenness of the call came as a painful shock to the family and the community, but not to Mrs. WAINWRIGHT who was a devoted Christian and ready for her Master’s call. As in the Finland summer, the sun just dips below the horizon and no more, at midnight – there is no division between the sunset and the dawn, the same rosy flush serves for both – so is the sunset of the Christian and the dawn of eternal day – the one melts into the other with a sweet surprise. But Mrs. WAINWRIGHT will be sadly missed in the home, in her church and in the town.
It is only four and a half years since the death of her husband, for it will be remembered that in October, 1927, Mr. Edmund WAINWRIGHT passed over, just a few days before they were to have celebrated their golden wedding.
Mrs. WAINWRIGHT was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henry LOVEMORE. Her father was an 1820 Settler who landed in Algoa Bay at the age of six years. She was born at Preston Park, Alexandria, in 1854, where she lived with her parents until her eighteenth year when the family came into the Queenstown district, settling on the farm “Wellington,” next to “Turvey’s Post.” Whilst here she was married to Mr. WAINWRIGHT on October 17, 1877…

The late Miss McGAHEY
Special tributes to her popularity
Huge crowd at funeral
Special tributes to the late Miss Kathleen McGAHEY, daughter of the Rev. J.W. and Mrs. GcGAHEY, formerly of Queenstown, whose death occurred on April 28, at the Rondebosch Hospital, appeared in Cape papers at the time.
One of the stewards of the Rosebank Methodist wrote:
The death of Miss Kathleen McGAHEY at the early age of 20 has come as a great shock to her many friends at the Rosebank Methodist Church.
She had recently recovered from a serious illness, after which she retired from business activities. Serious symptoms again developed and Miss McGAHEY died after an operation.
Shortly after leaving Rustenburg High School she entered into the varied activities associated with the Church. These included the duties of teacher in the primary department of the Sunday school, regular attendance at choir practices, Cub mistress and leader of the Junior Association of Missionary Helpers…
Much sympathy is felt for her parents, more expecially as they had planned to go on furlough next month and to visit Mr. McGAHEY’s native city, Dublin, after an absence of 27 years…
